The song “zu alt?” is a philosophical question about life. It is based on a poem penned by the Dutch poet Drieck van Wissen (Poet of Vaderland). “Until now, nobody in Germany has known these texts and the songs based on them,” says Anton.
And that's what the song is about: “Somehow you're always told that you're too old as a human being,” says Anton van Doornmalen and adds: “... however young you are.” Only when the final hour has struck are you too young. The composition goes back to the Dutch song “Leeftijd”, which Anton composed and which is based on the poem by van Wissen.
Actually, “Leeftijd” means age. In the new version, the noun becomes a question. The song says: “You're too old, you keep telling yourself / Too old to still be half-strong / Too old for pub crawls and womanizing / So many things you'd still like to have done.”
