Many concertgoers left the PS.Halle in Einbeck on Thursday deeply moved and touched. The reason: Anton van Doornmalen and his band of professional musicians. This time, the children's choir of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Einbeck was also involved under the direction of Katorin Ulrike Hastedt.
Funny, serious and touching
The author of the Einbecker Morgenpost wrote on August 19, 2024: “Partly funny, partly serious and touching it went on. Van Doornmalen writes songs to capture feelings, experiences with family, friends and alone. At performances, he shares these feelings with the audience.”
Pain and bewilderment in one song
The review in the local newspaper continues: “The audience was able to experience his enthusiasm for his car (”driving with you is relaxing for me"), his love song for his wife on their 50th wedding anniversary as well as emotions about the miracle of birth and the pain and bewilderment about the imminent death of a friend for whom the doctors discontinued treatment.”
Proceeds go to Tanzania
The proceeds go to the Sibusiso Foundation in East African Tanzania, which cares for and supports handicapped children and their families. “We are not only united by music, but also by our passion for plant breeding, family entrepreneurship and responsibility for our employees,” said KWS CEO Dr. Felix Büchting in front of around 300 guests. As a successful vegetable breeder, Anton van Doornmalen was formerly Managing Director and for many years Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch family business Rijk Zwaan. They are also united in their desire to help people who are not doing so well - not only here in Germany, but also in other parts of the world, said Dr. Felix Büchting. With the charity concert, which is a “multi-generational concert” as it were, they wanted to set an example and make their contribution.
After great successes in 2013, 2016 and 2019, this was the fourth time that Anton van Doornmalen had performed in Einbeck.
“Making the difference”
Jane Duinmaijer-Fidelis from the Sibusiso Foundation in Tanzania was among those who attended the concert in Einbeck. “Let's build a bridge of hope,” she said, thanking them for their support. “With their help, we can make a difference.” Sibusiso offers mentally and physically challenged children and their families a perspective and does educational work so that society is more accepting of the children. At the Sibusiso center, which is located on an area of more than seven hectares near Arusha, children are admitted for a period of three to a maximum of six months and receive intensive care, go to school and receive occupational therapy, for example. After this time, they return to their families and continue to be cared for there.
The Dutch singer-songwriter was supported by his band: Joke de Jong (violin), Jorge Nieuwenhuis (guitar), Co Vergouwen (piano), Johan Boere (percussion), Laurens van Wessel (bass).
“Good night, friends!”
After almost three hours of heartfelt and thought-provoking but also simply happy songs, lots of applause and several encores, Anton van Doornmalen bid farewell with a traditional “Good night, friends”.
